llama.cpp b12200, Qualcomm OpenCL quantization kernel improvements

Posted As of

The llama.cpp b12200 release contains one change that reworks OpenCL q8_0 and small-batch MoE processing. No performance figures were published.

What happened

  • Based on the ggml-org llama.cpp GitHub release b12200. The release time is shown as November 8, 06:39, with no time zone.
  • The only change is PR #31831, which adds an OpenCL q8_0 GEMV kernel and small-batch MoE GEMV for quantization formats such as q5_1 and q4_k.
  • Also included are Adreno kernel tuning and a change that turns off bin FA for small validation batches.
  • The commit lists a Qualcomm engineer as a co-author, and the release list includes Snapdragon builds for CPU, Adreno GPU, and Hexagon NPU.

Our take

This change applies to users running local models on Snapdragon devices. There are no benchmarks or token speed figures, and the notes do not say which chips benefit. The "spec" in the PR title may refer to speculative decoding verification, but the release notes do not state this. For Mac and general PC users, the direct impact appears small.
