Apple Unveils MacBook Pro with Touch OLED 'PROLED XDR' and Up to 128GB Memory on M5 Max

Posted As of

On October 29, Apple unveiled 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with a touch-enabled tandem OLED display. The chips are M5 Pro and M5 Max, unified memory goes up to 128GB, and sales start November 6.

What happened

Based on Apple's newsroom announcement (Malaysia site version, October 29, 2026). Some reports dated it October 28, but the announcement we opened is dated the 29th. We have not confirmed the Korean price or release date.

  • Size and chip: 14.2-inch and 16.3-inch. Chip is M5 Pro or M5 Max. (official)
  • Memory and storage: Unified memory up to 128GB, storage up to 16TB. (official)
  • Display: Tandem OLED panel, up to 2000 nits peak brightness for both HDR and SDR, contrast ratio 10,000,000:1, variable refresh rate 10 to 120Hz. Touch is supported. (official)
  • Battery: Up to 24 hours. Apple's September 2026 test basis; results vary with usage conditions. (official)
  • On-device AI: Apple states that the M5 Max can run LLMs on the scale of "hundreds of billions of parameters" on the device. No specific model size is mentioned for the M5 Pro. (official, vendor claim)
  • Schedule: Pre-orders October 30, sales start November 6. (official, based on the Malaysia site version)

What we have not confirmed: The Korean won price, the real-world local LLM speed of the 128GB configuration, and the specific conditions behind Apple's stated model size (quantization level, context length).

Our take

Whether to buy for local LLM use depends more on the memory configuration than on the display. The fact that the 128GB ceiling was kept can be read alongside the comparable configurations we have been tracking. If the Korean price is confirmed, we plan to add it to our per-GB price table; until then, we will not make up numbers.
